There was a convoy battle in the Arctic sea where cargo ships were heading to Russia and were attacked by a superior German force. Accompanying destroyers fought them off for two hours before British cruisers arrived and forced the Germans to withdraw. All the cargo. Ships reached Russia safely.

American bombers were destroying Japanese convoys off New Guinea and the British were conducting air raids on Japanese shipping in Burma .

A French camel corps seized an Italian position far to the south in North Africa, and both the United States and British planes were raiding Tunis and Palermo in Sicily

On the homefront, news regarding rationing filled the newspapers. There was an acute coffee shortage in the United States, and there  were investigations concerning phony ration cards for gasoline.

It is interesting that fascist countries banned a film about Pope Pius the 12th because they considered him to be too pacifistic. Quite timely since we are getting books banned day after day here in Florida by a governor who sees nothing wrong with erasing United States history, in order to appease his right wing base. Teachers in Florida are covering books up to avoid being charged with a third-degree felony with a possible punishment of five years

I wake up every day, waiting for the indictments to come down in the hopes that that will somehow change  what is happening in this country. Donald Trump opened Pandora’s box by normalizing antisemitism and fascism. it is so sad to see the underbelly of this country establishing that there are so many people living here who have been given permission to crawl out from under their rocks to spew hatred. It is not the country I grew up in or a country I want to see continue to allow this. Maybe if the ex-president is indicted along with his cronies, and is found guilty and they go to prison all of this will be shown to be what it is, pandering of hatred of anybody that looks or acts different than you. Very sad.
